Betty A. Fields, age 77, died early Friday morning May 30, 2008 at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove, Oklahoma. Betty was the daughter of Odis and Velma (Oaks) Varner. She was born on July 15, 1930 in Kingman Kansas. She married Joe "J.C." Fields, Sr. on September 15, 1948, in Benton County Arkansas. J.C. Fields preceded her in death on April 16, 2003. Over the years, Betty worked in various places. She was a cook at the Jay Memorial Hospital. Hers was the friendly face in the Bargain Basement in Nichols Brothers in Southwest City Missouri. She also worked at Anthony's in Grove and was a department manager and checker at the Jay Wal-Mart. She made quilts for many years and enjoyed Bluegrass music. Her favorite group was her sons and grandsons. Betty is survived by six of her eight children. Jane Summerfield and husband Virgil of Jay, Mike Fields and wife DaMaris of Grove, Donnie Fields and wife Lisa of Fairland, Rick Fields and wife of Lora of Jay, Dolly Roberts and companion Darrell of Jay, and Dewey Fields and wife Anita also of Jay, 25 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Irene Bish of Boerne, Texas and Macie Fiechtner of Dallas Texas. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons; Joe Fields Jr., and Dennis Fields, one granddaughter; Marisa Fields and three sisters. A visitation for family and friends will be held from6:00 p.m. till 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 2, 2008 at the Delaware Baptist Church, with Brother Chester Crittenden officiating. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers will be; Interment will be immediately following at Olympus Cemetery in Grove, Oklahoma.
