Herbert F. Parkins, 93 year old, Grove Oklahoma resident, passed away, Friday June 6, 2014. Herbert was born on February 27, 1921 in Douglass, Kansas to John and Rose (Johnston) Parkins. After school, Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Kansas Department of Transportation for many years. He loved bowling as well as dancing and playing horseshoes with friends (as his health permitted). Herbert was also an avid woodworker and outdoorsman who loved to camp and fish, as well as maintaining a garden. He also enjoyed traveling. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers, and his wife of 64 years, Audrey Parkins. Herbert is survived by a sister, Gertrude McLaughlin of Lacey, Washington, a brother Virgil Parkins, of Farmington, Arkansas, son, Roger Parkins of Port Angeles, Washington, two daughters, Molinda Hull of Grove, Oklahoma and Bonnie Oelschlager of Mesa, Arizona, seven grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren. A memorial service for Herbert will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28th at the Honey Creek Retirement Village.
