John "Jack" Irwin Stagner, Jr., age 89, died on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at his residence in Grove, Oklahoma. Jack was born on September 20, 1919 to Gladys (Burnett) and John Irwin Stagner, Sr. in Morris, Oklahoma. Jack proudly served our country during WWII in the US Navy. He was on the Saint Lo and was one of few survivors during the first Japanese Kamikaze attacks. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, lifetime member of the VFW Legion Post in Pleasanton, Kansas. Jack worked as a welder building power plants; he was very artistic and enjoyed making jewelry and lapidary work. He had a vast collection of rocks, had rocks instead of flowers. Jack is survived by his son John I. Stagner III of Louisville, Kentucky, one grandson Mathew Stagner and his wife Erin, one granddaughter Laura Wagman and her husband Allen of Virginia, his partner for twelve years Betty Walker. Memorial Services are planned for 11:00 a.m., January 2, 2009 at the Grace Presbyterian Church in Grove, Oklahoma with Reverend Archie Lawrence officiating.
