GROVE - Larry Allen Yates, 68, passed away July 11, 2007 at his home in Grove Oklahoma. Larry was born April 3, 1939 to Thomas R. and Sylvia M. (Myers) Yates in Wichita, Kansas. He attended and graduated May of 1956 from Howard High school in Howard Kansas. Larry married Luan Lucile (Groskruetz) on April 3,1961, she preceded him in death in 2005. Larry proudly served his country in the Navy from August of 1956 until February of 1960, Navy Reserve from February of 1960 until August of 1962. Mr. Yates then re-enlisted in the Kansas Army National Guard and also served in the Missouri Army National Guard, not retiring until 1992. Larry served in the 203D Engineer Battalion Support Company as a Specialist E-4. During his service, Larry worked for Boeing Aircraft as a mechanic. After retirement, Larry enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting with his bird dogs, and gardening. Larry was active in the VFW. Survivors include two sons, Larry Allen Yates, Jr., George Yates and his wife Zenobia all of Grove Oklahoma, two daughters, Linda Turner and husband Mike of Mulvane Kansas, Tammy Griffith and husband John of Grove Oklahoma, son in-law Sonny Guymond, two brothers, Don Yates of Oregon and Robert Yates of Texas, one sister Sharon Schrimager, brother in-law Gary Groskruetz of Nowata Oklahoma, twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and his six dogs. Larry was preceded in death by his father Thomas Yates and mother Sylvia Yates, his wife, one daughter Vicki Guymon, and one sister, Linda Hull, and one dog "Tiff". A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, July 13, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., July 14, 2007 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bob Shambles officiating. Casket bearers will be Darrin Hull, Frankie Shepherd, Frank Shepherd, Mikey Hull, Troy Lewis and Jerry Kimbrough. Burial and military rites will be in Round Mound Cemetery near Cedar Vale, Kansas at 2:00 p.m., July 14, 2007. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been set up at Arvest Bank in Grove Oklahoma.
