Max Ladue Tillman, 73, a long time resident of Grove passed away at home in Grove, Oklahoma on Sunday, September 23, 2007. He was born on Feb 11, 1933 in Pawnee, OK to Melvin and Mary (Helton) Tillman. Max married Nancy Brown on June 22, 1963 in Las Vegas Nevada. Mr. Tillman was very active in the Grove area, and spent over 35 years serving in the hospitality industry. Some of his activities were helping establish the Grove Moose Lodge, being a past president of the Grand Lake Association along with the Chamber of Commerce. Max served as Grove Police Commissioner and served as Vice President of Sunbank Electronics in Southern California. He was also active in the Masonic Lodge in both California and Oklahoma. He loved to fish, travel in his motor home and spend time with his family. He traveled across the country with his wife Nancy for the Order of the Eastern Star. Mr. Tillman is preceded in death by his parents Melvin Tillman, Mary "Helton" Tillman, wife Nancy J. Tillman, sisters Pat Thompson, Delores DeLaTorre and step son Mark Christopher Nottingham. Max is survived by his, two children Max L. Tillman Jr. of Grove, Michele Tillman Keller of Overland Park, KS, and step son John Nottingham. Grandchildren include Marcus Tillman, Lee Tillman, Christina Nottingham, Lindsey Nottingham, Tyler Doublehead, Gabriella Keller and Ethan Keller. Great grand children include Alana Nottingham and Cooper Wilson. Memorial Services with Masonic rites will be 10:00 am on Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the Community of Christ Church in Grove, with Pastor Nolan Scarberry officiating. Interment with military services will follow at the Olympus Cemetery under the direction of the Ellis Family Funeral Home. Max's best friend was Roy Coats. When Uncle Roy died of nasopharyngeal cancer in 1988, a memorial fund was established for the research and treatment of cancer. Two Roy E. Coats Research Laboratories were founded, one at UCLA, where Uncle Roy was treated, and one at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica. A gift to this fund would be an added tribute to Max and his wife Nancy since they both lost their battle with cancer. Donations maybe made in lieu of flowers to Roy E.
