Wordna Sawyer

Grove - Wordna DuRyea Sawyer, at the age of 84 my precious wife, died at Integris Grove General Hospital Tuesday, December 18, 2007. She grew up in Colgate Oklahoma. Wordna entered nurses training at Oklahoma General Hospital in 1941, graduating in 1944 as a Registered Nurse and she was very proud of being a Registered Nurse. In the summer of 1946, she met Herschel "Buz" Sawyer. They were married March 15, 1947 in the Oliver Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mr. Sawyer was employed by American Airlines, so they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. To this marriage was born two sons, Herschel Jr. Sawyer and Phillip Sawyer. Phillip passed away in January of 2003. Wordna retired from Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1978, so she and her husband "Buz" moved to Grove, Oklahoma. She loved Grove and the many friends she had. She loved her home and neighbors, and her "Bunco" buddies. She is preceded in death by her son Phillip, her mother Lydia Dawson and Aunt Wilma Hall. Leaving in grief, her husband Herschel "Buz" Sawyer, son Herschel Sawyer, Jr., granddaughter Suzanna Sawyer and great-grandchildren Jacob and Bailey Sawyer. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 21, 2007 at the Ellis Family Funeral Home Chapel in Grove, Oklahoma. Interment will be held at a later date at Floral Haven Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Friends and family may leave online condolences by viewing obituary at www.ellisfuneralhome.com.
